History

Morning Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church came from humble beginnings and was founded prior to the inital record of 1907. Court records indicate that the church is more than 100 years old; however, early records were not kept and present memory fails thos yet living.

The church was officially organized in 1907 with Rev. Freeny as pastor and a few dedicated members who were housed in a small farm house on the bank of Jeanetta Ditch near Goode Street.

Rev. James Watts, Sr., became the pastor in February 1980 after serving as pastor at several churches. Rev. Watts had a vision for Morning Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church. He has been one of God's chosen preachers for 40 years.

Our membership is still growing and the Morning Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church strives to promote fellowship and Christian love and continues to stand as a beacon of hope in the community.

Morning Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church is a friendly church located at 1309 Edgar D. Nixon Avenue in the downtown area of Montgomery, Alabama, in the proximity of the Governor's Mansion.
